Death at bargain prices...

It's really strange, but did you ever notice that alot of secret agents die, but never Emma or Steed? There are so many good agents, but they just die!
And it's the same with Emma's and also Steed's friends. In many episodes the viewers are introduced to some good friends of Emma and Steed but suddenly they die!
So have they still friends, if every episode die someone of them??? :)
It's a really silly thought, I know, but I was thinking about it and if I would loose so many of my friends I would be alone...

:) ???

Thoughts...

Today seems to be one of those crazy days on which I start to think about different things and become very melancholical. It's just one of these this on which I feel very sad and could cry about a silly video at youtube where Emma leaves "The Avengers"

So I started thinking again about Patrick Macnee and it makes me feel quite unconfortable. I don't know why but there is something about him that touched me deep inside.
Does anybody know what he's doing the last years? Is he happy? Is he sitting all day long in his house thinking about the things that happened?
I don't know.

I've got the feeling that The Avengers was the only thing that made him happy. He had a lot of friends there, Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg who helped him trough the hard times he had. While the others left the show he still was there - believing in the perfect world they showed in The Avengers. But alone. Diana, who was the women he trusted in wasn't there anymore.
He never will forget these years with The Avengers, it wasn't a project for him it was his life - his whole life! I think he was very happy when they started with TNA and very sad when all was over.
There he was - again alone - no Diana. I'm sure it wasn't easy for him. Nothing was easy for him.. when I was reading the book "The Avengers and me", I was convinced that he did live for The Avengers - ther he had joy and now it's over.

I would like to say to him: Patrick, you did a great job! You have changed the life of so many people out there. Don't worry. It was the best thing you've ever done!
I would like to talk to him. Ask him about his feelings, the plans he had...
But I will never have this chance...Never. All the others could leave the Avengers behind. He couldn't. Never.

The New Avengers

For me TNA have been always more in the backround compared with TA, but now I've started to love this episodes too :) so therefore I have collected some pictures for all TNA - Fans
Hope you like them.

The British sense of humour

What I like about The Avengers is the typical British humour. That's absolutely great. Although in very seriouse situations Steed and also Emma are making jokes.
One of my favourite is this:

A surfeit of H2O

Steed remarks the place where they have found the death body in the grass:

"I had an auntie who used to make biscuits like this."

I love this, there are of course more quotes like this one, but it's not easy to understand them - I only know them in german

Cathy Gale Episodes

In my opinion this episodes aren't as popular as all the others. But it's difficult for me to analyse why. I like Cathy - indeed. She has is a great charcater - very female, ironic, clever...
But I have problems with the episodes. Something is missing. I don't know if it's because I don't understand well what they are talking about - I have the DVD's, but it seems that the sound isn't good and they talk so fast! It's easier for me to understand Emma, Tara and Purdey (and there are also german DVD's available)

So could you explain the problems with the Cathy Gale area? what do you think?

Funny

I was looking for some pictures at google.at...this I've found. I was laughing for half an hour :D :D

Who would fit the bill?

I was not sure if I should make a new poll, but I think it's better to post this question, so you can explain you answer and we can discuss about it.

Which girl would Steed take, if he has the choice?

Where are those happy days?

If you watch TA you will notice that there are so many differences - compared with nowadays.
In former times people wore beautiful clothes. We just wear jeans, jeans and jeans. Everyday. Sometimes we have the possibility to wear something different, but not often. If you sometimes wear a dress or a skirt people thing you are strange. Especially if you live in a smaller village like I do.

TA show a life of joy and happiness. Steed and Emma have a big flat, expensive cars, wondeful wardrobes...

It's the life everybody wants. They are popular and clever, smart...

Today you don't have to be cleaver. If you are good at school they don't like you. You have to be sexy, not beautiful. You have to be like others. Wear jeans, T-Shirts, like heavy metal and horror films. Otherwise they don't like you.

So here I am. A young girl who belongs to the sixties :) Dreaming of a life with champagne, a lotus elan s2, beautiful dresses, cocktail parties and John Steed.
If you go out today you must be drunken. It would be so nice if you can go out, drink a glass of champagne, wear a beautiful dress like Emma and dance all night...

I'm oldfashioned, I know but I'm proud of it.

Behind the smiling faces...

I'm sure you have already noticed, that a like to interpret pictures, scenes etc.
Well, as a hobby psychologist I have now started to interpret Patrick Macnees life :)
Perhaps it's completely false what I'm thinking about him - I always have the intention to feel sorry for people, although I don't know them well - and so I do for Patrick Macnee.

I have read some biographical informations about him, informations from the books I have mentionned at my blog and my first thought was that he must be very unhappy.

I think that he fell deeply in love with Diana Rigg - but everybody knows that she was looking for a man of intelect...she got what she wanted - Patrick didn't.
He got married for several times...His childhood qas quite difficult and so the life before, during and after "The Avengers".
I've read that he often has visited Diana and her family. Perhaps he wanted to be a part of it.

Of course he has 2 children and I also believe that he is happy with his last wife (does anybody know if she is still alive??? I don't know - I've read two different things...) But I think that Patrick is sometimes really sad...

Diana Rigg's life wasn't easy too, but I believe that she gets what she wanted. She has a beautiful daughter and for me it seems that she enjoys everything. I have watched interviews and I've seen alot of pictures - she's always smiling - but not a forced laughter - just a natural smile

Here I have some pictures of her (belong to http://www.rachael-stirling.com/gallery/?level=album&id=111)

The Avengers (1998)

Today I'm writing about the film "The Avengers". I believe that everybody have seen it - perhaps with great expectations - but I'm really disappointed. Who isn't?

They have tried to revive "The Avengers" but for me it was just a really bad film. Of course, Uma Thurman, Ralph Fiennes and Sean Connery are great actors - but they didn't fit the bill for this film.
Nobody could ever replace Patrick Macnee or Diana Rigg. They had the "swinging sixties" in their blood - they have grewn up during this year - they had a special connection to "The Avengers"

So I'm wondering why the have made this film...it was too much - they did exaggerate in every case. There wasn't much equality with the old avengers...

I'm sorry if there is anybody who like the film - but I don't...

International

My last critic about TNA wasn't good (except for Emily) but now I have recognised that there is something special about TNA.
While TA just solve cases in good old Britain, TNA have to travel around the world - and they still have their british charme. While Purdey and Gambit have a modern character, Steed is still a british gentleman. So something traditional is meeting something new...

Steed and Emma

Since I have seen the first episode of The Avengers, it was absolutely clear for me that Emma and Steed should be a couple. The first episode I have seen was "The Joker" there was the final scene where Emma and Steed left the dining room and closed the door and when I saw this I knew that I must see all the other episodes because there must be more between this charming agents - but there wasn't.

It was really sad when Emma did left. There were so many questions. Steed is looks very sad, while Emma seems very enthusiastic. But I believe that she loves Steed.

If I'm wathcing the avengers I'm still waiting that something will happend between Steed and Emma - although I know that they will never kiss...

Steed - a wizard???

Yesterday I was watching "Death at bargain prices" and I have noticed, that Steed always is there if Emma needs help and he others don't see him if he breaks into buildings or anything like that. (he's waiting behind the door - nobody see him!!!)

How can he do this? Perhaps he is a "see-trough man" :)

or how did he managed to get into the castle in "the joker"? very mysterious. :)

And he does always know where Emma is... strange...

:) if things always would be so easy as they are in "The Avengers"....

Emma's helping hand - my inspiration Emma Peel

Today I have finished school - 5 long years are over now. Next week I have my final exams. Motivation?! Not really. But I have a trick to make all the things easier for me: Emma Peel

She is very clever, she knows a lot - it doesn't matter what subject - she knows everything.
To be a little bit more like Emma Peel I have ton learn all the things - and thats my motivation. I'will become more clever, more smart. I could discuss with others about important things...just like Emma.

So let's start with my perperations for the exams. I can manage it - just like Emma.

Relationships....

I'm often thinking about Steed and his female partners. And then I have to smile. If I see some scenes (especially the end scenes) of the avengers I create a story - what would happen after they have solved a case, so there are my sugestions.

Steed and Cathy

In my opinion this relationship would be funny. Steed would try to have sex - but Cathy would ignore this. And if Steed get what he wants - Cathy would tell him clearly what she wants and what he has to do.

Steed and Emma
I believe their relationship would be really wild. They would have sex at very extraordinary places. The would have fun and sometimes they couldn't get on without sex. But of course they adore each other.

Steed and Tara
Very romantic!!!! Steed would have to do the first step. They would drink champagne and after some glasses the would go to bed and have romantic sex. Steed would be a real gentleman and would lay the whole world at Tara's feet. Tara would be a little bit shy but very happy.

Steed and Purdey
For me they are just good friends

Who's there???

Hi everybody,

I don't know how many fans are reading this blog - I just see that some of you have voted at the polls.
Unfortunately there is no "Like" button, which Facebook offers, so I have to guess if there any readers or not.

It would be nice if you sometimes post some comments, just to make sure if you like it/don't like it.

It's quite alot of work to create a blog - and you are really disapointed if nobody is reading it...

Singing stars

That Honor Blackman and also Diana Rigg are good singers is no secret - since "Kinky Boots" and "Green grow the rushes" in "Too many christmas trees" all avenegrs-fans know, that these actors are alrounders. But Diana Rigg didn't only sing in "The Avengers". As "Phyllis" in the musical "Follies" she has proofed her talent. Here I have uploaded a "Could I leave you" from "Follies" Ejoy Diana's beautiful voice

Mother's Day

Today it seems to be the perfect day to say "Thank you" to Mother. :)
Well, everybody has his own mum, but there is also a mother, who is known by everyone.

Mother - the head of the secret agents Steed and Tara.

Mother alias Patrick Newell is a great character! He makes the episodes quite wonderfull! He is funny especially when he gets angry :)
and don't forget Rhonda, who never says a single word...

So, thank you mother - you did a good job :)

Cathy and Steed - Kiss

Cathy and Steed

I just have found this lovely picture
:)

Favourite Scenes/episodes

I'm always talking about my favourite scenes and episodes... now I really want to know what you like the most or which experience you have made with "The Avengers"

Are there any funny stories? Have you every dreamt something silly of Steed etc???

Would be great if you share it with me and the other fans :)

so just post a comment below

Remakes

I just have noticed, that there are more remakes of the Cathy Gale episodes

Death of a great dane -- The 50 000 breakfast

Don't look behind you -- The Joker

The Charmers -- The correct way to kill

It's really funny that they haven't got new ideas ... the plot is just a little bit different. Most of the time the remakes are better although Honor Blackman has been real good, but Emma Peel is more popular so people prefer the remakes. I think it's a shame.
Although this episodes have the same plot they are completely different, they have a different atmosphere. I watch "The Avengers" every day, I just have finished with the Cathy Gale episodes, now I have started with Emma Peel and everything seems so different -- the music - the language...

John Steed

Today I'm dealing with the topic JOHN STEED.
Well, at the beginning one important question: Which girl doesn't like Steed???
I adore Steed :) -- I'm already crazy -- I have dreamt that Steed is learning with me for my exams...well...it's better you forget this :)

soooo Steed is a real gentleman, charming, nice, handsome - VERY handsome and attractive, of course funny (I love his sense of humor) and well - he's just perfect.

He enjoys to be with beautiful women - I dare say that he is like Casanova - but a little more tactful and decent - very british - nobody knows what he's doing at night if there is no case he has to solve :)

He is the person who fascinated the audience, he and his female partner are the perfect team - they complement each other - and that's a great combination.

There are so many fantastic scenes with Steed but my top scene is this:

False Witness - Tara is spilling the 2 bottles of milk all over Steeds desk - the expression of Steed is great! I love it! I always must smile if I see this.

comments...

I just change the settings --> now everyone can post comments

hope you will post some...

:)

Are you the man who...?

Since I have seen "the forget me knot" (thats quite a long time...) I can't stop thinking, what Emma was whispering in Steeds ear...

Have you an idea?

Are you the man who.....with me?

My interpretation of THE kissing scene

Well, one of my favourite scenes is the kissing scene between Steed and Cathy in "the little wonders"
Although I know that they are not a couple and I don't understand every word they say, I adore this scene.

in my opinion Cathy really enjoy Steeds kiss. At first she looks surprised, but after the kiss the is smiling all the time. And Steed looks very proud. He has conquered Cathy --> the way he holds Cathy :) - very typical for a man...and then his rubbing his nose! I love that! just as he wants to say: Well, Cathy, what do you think of it? I'm great, am I?!

Tuesday 4 May 2010

A sense of history

I'm sure you have remarked that I also added a picture from Steed and David Keel. This was the real beginning of "The Avengers", but nobody remember these series and they aren't available. "The Avengers" first become popular when Honor Blackman started acting.

David Keel actually was the main character of the show, but the viewers prefer John Steed - so David Keel alias Ian Hendry left the show.

"Don't look behind you" vs. "The Joker"

These two episodes are nearly the same. No wonder - "The Joker" is a simple remake of "Don't look behind you" The plot is nearly the same. They have the same charakters (just with another job), they even have the same dialogues.
So the small difference is that there are different actors.
Which episode is better? The mysteriouse black white episode with Cathy or the funnier colorful episode with Emma?
Well, Steed has always the same part - just the two girls create another atmosphere...

I like both - and you?

Sunday 2 May 2010

Tara King

For me she is the complete opposite of Emma Peel. Tara is cute, sometimes shy and very feminin. She fights with typical feminin weapons like her handbag or other things she can reach during the fight. And Tara is the only one who shows that she adores Steed. She is not married, so there is no barrier between them. If I would be a secret agent, I think I would be like Tara. Not as brave as Emma, not as distant like Cathy, not as wired as Purdey - just a average, a little bit clumsy girl like Tara, who loves Steed.
I think Tara did a very good job, although she just finished school. I believe it was very hard for her, she didn't know the Avengers, and after Diana Rigg it wasn't easy to prove that she is the next girl at Steeds side - but she did it well.
I like her funny character and the way she fights. She is very sympathetic and she is the only one who is quite normal - you can identify yourself with her, and thats the thing why the Avengers keep on running.
