The Avengers and.... Austria

I don't know if you're interested in this, but I will rell you about the "Avengers" -situation in Austria.
As I know, there are many fans from GB (of course) and America - lucky one's...

In Austria it's difficult to be a fan. During the sixties "The Avengers" - called "Mit Schirm, Charme und Melone" (= With umbrella, charme, and bowler hat) was one of the best shows, but there where many differences between the British (original) series and the series the did show in Austria. They weren't allow to show different scenes (like The Queen of sin...) and Austria wasn't able to see the other avenger-ladies - just Emma Peel.

So if you ask somebody in Austria about "The Avengers", they just know "Mrs. Peel"...

Later the show the complete episodes. But even today are some scenes missing - I bought the new DVD box of TNA and there are some scenes in english because they didn't translate them into german. So if you watch this episodes on TV you're missing something. I'm glad, that there are some people who put this scenes on the DVD box (with subtitels), otherwise I and all the other fan's in Austria wouldn't be able to see them.

It's the same with the Cathy Gale episodes...they are just available in English.

So this is the situation in Austria, there are just old people you know "The Avengers" (the original one's with Diana and Pat..) some young people who know "The Avengers" film (and have no idea that there did exist a much better TV show before the film) and some (very less) fan's like me, who try everything to talk about the Avengers and find new informations and interesting facts...

So if you're not talking english you're a lost fan...
